Tata Motors`sales dip marginally in Aug`07

Auto major, Tata Motors reported a total sale of 45,144 vehicles (including exports) for the month of August 2007, compared to 45,325 vehicles sold in August last year, a decline of 0.40%. Cumulative sales for the company were seen at 2,14,603 units, reporting a marginal decline of 0.8%.

The domestic market sales continues to be sluggish for the company, due to the high interest rate regime.

Commercial Vehicles

The company recorded a growth of 1.6% in commercial vehicles sales at 23,431 units in August 2007 in the domestic market, over 23,069 vehicles sold in August last year. M&HCV sales stood at 11,625 units, a decline of 13.6% over August 2006, while LCV sales were at 11,806 units, a growth of 23% over August 2006.

Cumulative sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal were at 105,835 units, a decline of 1.8% over last year. Cumulative M&HCV sales stood at 54,647 nos., a decline of 12% over last year, while LCV sales for the fiscal were 51,188 units, an increase of 12.4% over last year.

Passenger Vehicles

The passenger vehicle business achieved total sales of 16,620 vehicles in the domestic market in August 2007, a decline of 5% over August 2006. The Indica reported sales of 11,396 units, a decline of 4% over August 2006. The Indigo family registered sales of 2,192 units, a growth of 1% over August 2006. The Sumo and Safari accounted for sales of 3,032 units, a decline of 12% over August 2006.

Cumulative sales of passenger vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal were flat at 85,471 units. Cumulative sales of the Indica were flat at 57,092 units. Cumulative sales of the Indigo family were 11,984 units, a decline of 8%. Cumulative sales of Sumo and Safari were 16,395 units, an increase of 5.3%.

Exports

The company`s sales from exports at 5,093 vehicles in August 2007 grew by 8% as compared to 4,715 vehicles in August 2006. The cumulative sales from exports in the current period at 23,297 nos. have recorded a marginal growth of 1.4% over the previous year.

Shares of the company gained Rs 1.10, or 0.163%, to end at Rs 702.95. The total volume of shares traded was 312,236 at the BSE. (Monday)
