Slim chance of debate in House
For all the passion it has generated among the political class, the much awaited nuclear debate may not come up in Parliament at all.
With just about a week left for the monsoon session to be over as scheduled on September 14, and the UPA-Left committee to discuss the deal’s further movement still in the works, the chances of a debate on the deal in this session are remote.
Indications are that the government will like to delay the discussion till the panel has finished its job. Though the government had finalised composition of the panel’s UPA side on Tuesday, the possibility of it putting together its findings before September 14 is bleak.
Sources pointed out that both Left and UPA will be constrained to ensure that the position they take in the debate does not conflict with views they take in the deliberations of the panel.
