Asian stocks open negative

Asian stocks opened negative on Monday (September 17) after ending its four-day gaining streak. World`s largest mining company BHP Billiton, which slipped 1.4%, after crude oil prices dropped, led the decline. Electronic giant Samsung Electronics also declined, touching its three month low.

Japanese market were closed today (Sept. 17) for a holiday.

Hong Kong`s index Hang Seng declined 80.39 points, or 0.32%, to trade at 24,817.72.

China`s Shanghai Composite gained 83.68 points, or 1.58%, to trade at 5,395.86.

Taiwan`s index Taiex lost 28.94 points, or 0.32%, to trade at 9,002.69.

South Korea`s KOSPI declined 2.11 points, or 0.11%, to trade at 1,867.91.

Singapore`s Straits Times lost 16.40 points, or 0.46%, to trade at 3,520.00. (8.25 a.m, IST)
