Birla Power net down 31.95% for Jun`07 qtr Birla Power Solutions registered a steep drop of 31.95% in net profit to Rs 17.76 million for the quarter ended June 2007 from Rs 26.10 million for the corresponding quarter last year. The decline in net profits is consequent to fall in operating and net margins. from 5.58%.
Net sales for the quarter rose 3.38% to Rs 478.34 million from Rs 462.72 million for the same quarter last year.
Total income for the quarter rose 3.6 4% to Rs 484.97 million as compared with Rs 467.92 million for the same quarter last fiscal.
The earnings per share (EPS) of the company stood at Rs 0.75 in the quarter ended June 2007.

Birla Power Solutions (BPSL), an ISO-9002 compliant company, is from the Yash Birla Group stable. It was the first company to manufacture portable generators in India in 1986. The company is presently producing a wide range of generators catering to the power requirements 500W to 5.5 K.W. It was the 1st company to roll out self start gensets (SSG) and recently became the 1st company to launch emission compliant generators under the brand name – Birla Ecogen.
The present domestic market share of BPSL Generators is around 32%.

Future Plans
The company plans to get into the cement industry and to leverage the strong, marketing and distribution network, and make a related diversification into consumer durables like air-conditioners and electric radiators.
The group`s strategy is to consolidate the existing operations and to focus on areas like IT, tools, chemicals and consumer durables.
Social Responsibility
Fully aware of its social responsibilites, the group is supporting the cottage and village industry sector by establishing centres in Bhadoi, Srinagar, Jaipur and Agra for producing hand made carpets. The support is not just financial, but for marketing and designing as well. Help is also being provided to the families of artisans so that adult members can contribute towards creating some of the most exquisite carpets.
Shares of the company were last trading up Rs 0.05, or 0.15%, at Rs 33.75. The total volume of shares traded at the BSE was 84,329. (3.30 pm, Tuesday)
