10 SEZs get formal approvals The board of approval (BoA) of the special economic zones (SEZs) after considering 19 applications for setting up SEZs, granted 10 Formal approvals and 2 in-principle approvals, on Sep. 18, 2007.
The chairman of the BoA, informed the members that, so far 386 SEZs have been granted formal approvals, out of which 149 have been notified, over Rs 477.32 billion have been invested in these notified SEZs -that are providing direct employment to over 40,729 persons.
The prominent among those recommended are : IT/ITES SEZ by Tata Consultancy Services in Gujarat; 3 IT/ITES SEZ by Navi Mumbai SEZ in Maharashtra and IT/ITES SEZ by Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation, Gujarat, that received formal approvals. In principle approval was granted to textile SEZ by Jindal Worldwide Limited in Gujarat.
