Asian markets close higher, on rising metal prices

Asian market touched two-month highs on Tuesday (Sep. 25, 2007), led by BHP Billiton and Sumitomo Metal Mining, after prices of copper, nickel and zinc gained.

BHP, the world`s largest mining company, and Rio Tinto Group advanced to a record high.

Toyota Motor advanced on a speculation that a strike by the employees of General Motors will help Japanese automakers to raise market share.

Markets in South Korea and Taiwan remained closed for the second day.

Japan`s benchmark index Nikkei gained 89.12 points, or 0.55%, to trade at 16,401.73.

Hong Kong`s Hang Seng declined 121.65 points, or 0.46%, to trade at 26,430.29.

China`s Shanghai Composite lost 62.12 points, or 1.08%, to trade at 5,695.28.

Singapore`s Straits Times added 14.20 points, or 0.39%, to trade at 3,624.82. (3.15 p.m, IST).
