Asian markets open mixed
Asian markets open mixed Asian stocks on Tuesday (September 25) opened mixed. Nikkei and Hang Seng slipped after yesterday`s holiday. Commodity stocks continued to add gains due to the rise in metal prices . BHP Billiton added 1.3%, while Rio Tinto Group added 2.5%. Japanese automakers gained on speculation that the strike by employees of General Motors would boost their sales. Toyota Motor added 1.4%, while Honda added 1.6%. Markets in South Korea and Taiwan remained closed for the second day. Japan`s benchmark index Nikkei lost 22.95 points, or 0.14%, to trade at 16,289.66. Hong Kong`s Hang Seng declined 65.97 points, or 0.25%, to trade at 26,485.97. China`s Shanghai Composite added 0.88 points, or 0.02%, to trade at 5,485.89. Singapore`s Straits Times added 1.82 points, or 0.05%, to trade at 3,640.84. (8.25 a.m, IST)
