State-run refiner Bharat Petroleum (Q, N,C,F)* Corporation (BPCL) rose 9.62% at the BSE on speculation that the company has made an onshore gas discovery in Assam.       >

Shares of the company were last trading up Rs 31.25, or 9.62%, at Rs 356, against the previous day`s close of Rs 324.75. A total of 745,514 shares changed hands at the BSE.(10.46 am, Tuesday)

It was reported in a leading financial daily that the company in consortium with Premier Oil, UK, had made country`s largest gas discovery in Cachar, Assam.

BPCL, however, denied any such discovery. The company has no knowledge of any find or discovery of gas or oil in its Cachar Exploration Block, said BPCL in a release.

The stock gained 14.56% over the past week, and 18.65% over the last month.
