Market trades firm
Market trades firm The BSE benchmark index is currently trading on a firm note on the back of buying activity in heavyweights. Sensex and Nifty both are touching new highs in the current session. Nifty is nearing the 5,000 mark while Sensex is 106 points away from 17,000. Select stocks from telecom and IT traded in positive while cement and realty stocks led the declines. Auto and banking stocks traded mixed. BSE Sensex is trading at 16,893.07, up 47.24 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 4,940.70, up 8.5 points (11.18 a.m).
The BSE Midcap rose 0.11% and BSE Smallcap rose 0.14%.
>Out of the total 2,430 shares traded at the BSE, 975 advanced, 1,394 declined while 61 remained unchanged.
Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Auto declined 0.53%, BSE B ankex declined 0.06%, while BSE IT rose 0.51% and BSE Realty declined 2.39%.
Key gainers amongst the Sensex include Ranbaxy which inched up 2.64% to touch Rs 427.90, followed by Bharti Airtel which rose 1.86% at Rs 962.40 and Tata Steel rose 1.75% at Rs 762.00.
Satyam, Infosys, HDFC Bank, ONGC, Reliance Comm and ICICI Bank also moved up.
Laggards at the BSE Sensex included HUL which declined 1.81% to Rs 219.50, NTPC declined 0.92% at Rs 194.75 and Bajaj Auto declined 0.90% at Rs 2,551.00.
ITC, SBI, Ambuja Cement, Tata Motors and Reliance Industries also slipped.
The BSE Sensex will remain closed for one hour due to sun outage.
