NPPA revises prices of 200 life-saving medicines
NPPA revises prices of 200 life-saving medicines The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) took a decision to relook at the prices of over 200 life-saving medicines of wide-ranging therapeutic categories, reports Business Standard.
MNCs have allowed NPPA charge more for their imported insulin formulations. However, there will be reduction in prices in majority of medicines.
Formal announcement with regard to this change is likely to made later in this month. It is learnt that prices of some multi-vitamins and antibiotics may witness a marginal rise.
The medicines whose prices have been reduced belong to therapeutic categories, like dexametozone, betamethazone, ampicillin and ranitidine. The NPPA`s decision came after a price-revision meeting on September 21.
Alterations in prices of medicines by NPPA have been done four times in 2007. The frequency of fixing prices is more on account of meetings being held every alternate month. With the latest revision, the number of medicines whose prices have been reduced by the authority this year is around 1,000.
