Sensex cheers! hits 17k >Yet another big day for Sensex hitting the 17,000 milestone in the opening trades. Heavy buying interest and Asian cues led the rally. Within a short period of 6 days, the Sensex made its jouney to 17k. All sectors traded in positive. Asian stocks advanced for the third consecutive day on speculation that the interest rates on US home sales slump, will see a further decline.
The BSE benchmark index after opening positive at 16,969.45, touched a high of 17,025.07 in the opening bell.
The BSE Midcap rose 0.76% and BSE Smallcap rose 0.95%.

After looking at Tuesday`s movement wherein the market lost more than 160 points and later recovered about 200 points before the closing bell, Technical Analyst Vishwas Agarwal affirmed, “ Wednesday could be a big day, when Sensex may hit 17,000 mark and NSE can touch 5,000 mark, however 16,666 level is the major support for the market.“
Out of 648 strocks traded at the BSE, 565 advanced, 76 declined while 7 remained unchanged.
Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Auto rose 0.51%, BSE Bankex rose 0.66%, BSE IT rose 1.14% and BSE Realty rose 1.39%.
Key gainers amongst the Sensex include Wipro, which inched up 1.88% to touch Rs 443.95, followed by Maruti which rose 1.80% at Rs 1009.00 and M&M rose 1.57% at Rs 775.00.
Reliance Comm, Satyam, Tata Steel, SBI and ICICI Bank also moved up.
NTPC, w hich declined 0.20% to Rs 194.95 is the only loser at the BSE Sensex.
