CPI - IW rises to 133 points in Aug ` 07

All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) during August 2007 increased by one point to stand at 133 (one hundred and thirty three) points.

 

The point to point rate of inflation, based on the CPI-IW, increased from 6.45% in July 2007 to 7.26% in August 2007.

 

The rise/fall in index varied from centre to centre. The index recorded an increase of 7 points in Faridabad centre and 4 points each in Kodarma, Munger-Jamalpur and Bokaro centres, 3 points each in 8 centres, 2 points in 10 centres and 1 point in 14 centres.

 

The index during August 2007 decreased by 2 points each in Quilon, Godavirikhani and Mercara centres and by 1 point in 16 centres, while in the remaining 23 centres the index remained stationary.

 

The increase of 7 points in Faridabad centre was mainly on account of increase in the prices of wheat atta, mustard oil, onion, vegetable & fruit items and school fees. The increase of 4 points in Kodarma centre is mainly due to increase in the prices of rice, wheat, wheat atta, vegetable & fruit items and country liquor. In case of Monger-Jamalpur centre it is due to rice, wheat, onion and vegetable & fruit items, while in Bokaro centre it is due to wheat, wheat atta, mustard oil, onion, vegetable & fruit items, bus fare and washing soap.

 

The decrease of two points in Quilon centre is mainly due to decrease in prices of f ish fresh, coconut, pan (finished) etc., in Godavarikhani centre it is due to groundnut oil, goat meat and vegetable & fruit items, while in Mercara centre it is mainly due to rice, urud Dal, poultry and vegetable & fruit items.

Index of six main centers stood i.e of Ahmedabad and Delhi stood at 131, Kolkata and Mumbai at 135 , Banglore at 138 , and  Chennai at 126.
