Market trades firm The BSE benchmark index, Sensex after touching an all time high of 17,361.47 in the earlier session, shed most of its gains and is currently trading on a firm note. Select stocks from banking, pharma and metal gained ground, while auto and realty stock led the declines. BSE Sensex is trading at 17,217.87, up 67.31 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 5,014.60, up 14.05 points (1.40 p.m).
The BSE Midcap rose 0.35% and Smallcap rose 0.23%.
>Out of total 2,723 stocks traded at the BSE : 1,225 advanced, 1,417 declined while 81 remained unchanged.
Amongst sectoral indices : BSE Auto slid 0.27%, BSE IT dipped 0.53%, BSE Realty declined 0.11%, while BSE Bankex rose 1.09% and BSE Metal inched up 3.12%.
Key gainers at the Sensex include : Tata Steel which soared 7.48% to touch Rs 854.05, follo wed by Reliance Energy which surged 4.69% to Rs 1,169.60 and Hindalco increased 4.20% to Rs 171.00.
ITC, Maruti, SBI, Ranbaxy, ICICI Bank, Reliance Comm and Cipla also moved up.
Laggards at the BSE were : Reliance Industries which declined 1.73% to Rs 2,280.15, M&M decreased 1.36% to Rs 742.00 and Bajaj Auto dipped 1.03% to Rs 2,502.00.
Infosys, TCS, Bharti Airtel, Ambuja Cement, L&T and NTPC also slipped.
