Sensex signals celebrations The Sensex is celebrating the festive season in the true sense of the term. World markets are eyeballing the Indian bourses to do it again and hit another milestone of 18,000. The BSE benchmark index seems to be scaling new highs, having touched an all time high of 17,953.07 in the previous trading hour. It is nearing 18,000. Sustained buying interest is seen in the pivotal stocks. All sectors are trading in positive. BSE Sensex is trading at 17,888.40, up 559.78 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 5,245.60, up 176.65 points (12.31 p.m).

The BSE Midcap rose 1.49% and BSE Smallcap rose 0.75%.

Out of the total 2,665 sto cks traded at the BSE, 1,686 advanced, 916 declined while 63 remained unchanged.
Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Auto rose 1.47%, BSE Bankex rose 2.43%, BSE IT rose 2.88% and BSE Realty rose 6.37% and BSE Metal rose 2.70%.
Key gainers amongst the Sensex include NTPC, which soared 7.55% to touch Rs 221.55, followed by Reliance Comm which rose 6.72% at Rs 653.00 and Reliance Energy rose 6.57% at Rs 1,438.00.
ONGC, Tata Motors, M&M, Infosys and L&T also moved up.
Laggards at the BSE include Cipla, which declined 0.53% to Rs 187.65 and Ambuja Cement dipped 0.24% to Rs 147.00.
