BHEL, TNEB plan JV for Rs 8,500cr project
Power equipment maker BHEL today forayed into the execution of super-critical thermal power projects with the signing of a deal to set up a 1,600 Mw project in Tamil Nadu.
The project would be executed as a join venture with Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) at a total outlay of Rs 8,500 crore.
TNEB and BHEL would hold 26% stake each in the proposed joint venture, and the rest would be contributed by financial institutions, Heavy Industries Minister Santosh Mohan Dev told reporters here.
The project, comprising two units of 800 Mw each, would come up on a 500 acre site at Udangudi in Tuticorin district of the state. The JV company is expected to be in place in about three months, and work on the project is likely to commence shortly thereafter, Dev said
