ADAG floats cement arm to set up 4 plants
The Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) has stepped into the cement business in a big way by incorporating a new arm, Reliance Cement, to set up four cement plants of 5 million tonnes capacity each with a total investment of Rs 10,000 crore.
Madhya Pradesh has been strategically selected as the location for all four units to leverage strengths of ADAG’s Sasan ultra mega power project.
The company is in talks to tie up with limestone mines in Madhya Pradesh. Confirming the move, an official in ADAG said, “Work has been already started to set up cement plants in the state. The project work at the sites would kick-start in the next six-nine months.”
“The location is strategic as fly-ash (a raw material) from Sasan would be used to feed these units. Besides, plants would be assured of quality power supply at an economical rates,” he added.
Fly-ash, limestone, coal and power are the four key inputs for a cement plant. Around 60% of the cement produced in India uses fly-ash. The company would apply to the government for dedicated coal linkages for its cement units and also seeking captive coal mines
