Every second Tuesday of the month, Microsoft releases security-related updates for Windows and all other applications from its own home. However, one of these patches does not include a current security vulnerability but only ensures that Internet Explorer 11 displays a well-visible window on Windows 10 after a short time.
After clicking on this note, the download page for Windows 10 will open. In our current tests, the note appeared only once – but it can not yet be ruled out that the note is displayed again at a time interval.
This overlay is frustrating, especially for users who have already discovered that the computer is not compatible with Windows 10 at all, since the microsoft own tool “GWX” already shows that the computer is not compatible with Windows 10 at all. The note is also displayed on computers that have already been modified to ignore Microsoft’s advancements to install the free update to Windows 10.
With these blatant hints, Microsoft plays with the trust of its users and risks to permanently damage its reputation. Numerous websites and forums are already calling for the use of Internet Explorer 11 in order to avoid this advertising hint.
